Tokyo Joe's

He ate the potato!  Yesterday I came home for lunch and my husband had his potato ready to eat, along with other stuff on his plate.  I was so proud of him.  Speaking of him, it has come to my attention that the nickname I have chosen for him is inappropriate.  Thank you, Mom.  Just so you know, he is not the devil, or anything resembling that nasty creature fighting against all of us.  He is a blessing, sent from God, given to me as a gift.  So his new name will be Buzz.  That is way more appropriate.  So Buzz had a talk at work last night and was home late, around 8.  My son had soccer practice and we got home around 7.  I picked up food from Tokyo Joe's.  You need to eat there!  So good!  Buzz usually undereats at this place because it is kind of expensive for a quick bite to eat.  And he says he can't eat that much of any one thing.  Since it is my life's work to feed this man, I over ordered for him.  Two spring rolls, 4 pieces of tuna, and a chicken veggie teryiaki bowl with brown rice.  When he was eating I started bedtime for the kids.  He said, do you think any of this will be good left over?  And I said no, you need to eat all of that.  And he said, ok.  I am not sure if he did what he was told, but I didn't hear any complaints of hunger at bedtime.  You will all be very happy to hear I found a liquor store that had two six packs of Dry Dock Apricot Blonde beer left in their store yesterday.  I was thrilled to find this waiting for me.  I was planning on having one or three last night after I got the kids to sleep.  I even put two mugs in the freezer in preparation.  I invited Buzz to have a beer with me and he said he would split one.  Normally that would be a dumb thing to do, because if you can only drink half a beer, why open one in the first place.  But since this beer is like liquid gold to me, I thought, good idea, I don't really wanna share any of this beer.  So half sounded pretty good.  We have a living room with a couch and two chairs and a fire place.  This is where Buzz and I sit and talk and hang out.  We each have our chair and so that is where we sat and drank half a beer each.  We got to talking about some serious matters and so drinking more beer seemed not so fun anymore.  It's like I always say...

on the border

I love fajitas.  I mean, I love love love fajitas so much.  It is like the perfect combo of amazingness.  I don't usually eat the tortillas though, I make a big plate of food and eat chips with it all.  So more like a make your own nacho plate of awesomeness.  Grilled chicken, black beans, refried beans, guacamole, salsa, fresh jalapenos, sour cream, more salsa, grilled onions and veggies.  My 6 year old son feels the same way except its beans and chicken in a tortilla for him.  He can put away several of those in one sitting.  I have been excited all day because I wouldn't be home to make dinner tonight and needed to pick something up while I was out.  I needed to be two places at once and so my babysitter came over to take care of my 8 year old daughter after school.  My daughter had soccer practice at 4:30 today and my mother in law was flying back home from London and was arriving at 4:30.  Clearly I needed to order food from On the Border and pick it up on my way home from the airport.  At 2:00 today the soccer coach canceled practice.  This was exciting because now my daughter didn't have to miss out on picking up Grammy.  Or Gramster.  Or Gramcracker as my son likes to call her.  I was waiting for Gramster to text me when she made it through customs before I left for the airport.  I decided to go to this liquor store that was kind of on the way to the airport.  I heard they have Dry Dock Apricot Blonde beer for sale there and I couldn't get this out of my head.  That beer is from a local brewery called Dry Dock, here in Denver, or Aurora actually, or the hood.  This beer is SO amazing and delicious.  I first had that beer at one of my other favorite places, Dad's and Dudes Breweria, or DnD for short.  By BFF and I went to DnD three times a week when they had Dry Dock Apricot Blonde beer on tap.  I mean I even went to DnD for lunch with my BFF and then forced my husband and kids there for dinner in the same day.  And yes, I drank that delicious beer at lunch and dinner.  DnD doesn't have that beer on tap lately and so I have been missing this beer like crazy.   When my girlfriend invited me to Dry Dock Brewery at 2:00 two Friday's ago, I couldn't say YES fast enough.  It was like I died and went to heaven when I had that Apricot beer.  I wanted to get in the glass and swim around.  I found out they sell it in cans at a few local liquor stores and one of them was kind of on the way to the airport.  Now you see why I had to take that little detour.  My kids could care less because they were playing on my ipad and iphone in the back seat in electronic heaven.  Sad news!  They were all sold out of the Apricot Blonde.  Dude.  I had a moment there in the liquor store, but I pulled it together and grabbed the Dry Dock Hefeweisen.  How do you spell that word anyway?  I know that is wrong but spell check and I don't really know what I am saying. hefeweizen?  I asked about the Apricot beer and the guy said to come back everyday until they have it.  Haha.  That was a funny answer.  He was foreign and nice and very hard to understand and so I said ok I'll see you tomorrow!  Now my plan is to talk someone into going to Dry Dock Brewery with me on Wednesday for lunch.  There is no food at this brewery, only beer.  So I will need to pick my lunch date wisely.

burgers

Tonight was kind of a bust.  I made burgers and was going to make oven fries because that is a good combo for my husband.  Let's call him, Beelzebub.  Beelzebub wanted to make a new recipe for brussle sprouts to add to the dinner.  This is sounding like a nice idea to me because that man doesn't cook much and sure likes to eat.  Our kids wanted to go on a bike ride right when I was getting started with dinner.  So, naturally I thought it would be so much easier if I just stick the whole potato in the oven instead of all that chopping and seasoning.  So I turn on the oven to 400 degrees and put in three potatoes and we are off for a family bike ride at 5:30.  About a half block into our bike ride Beelzebub and I decide it is too f'ing cold to be out riding bikes and we turn the family around and head home.  This was the perfect ride time for our 6 year old.  We are back home by 5:33 and I get to making dinner.  I decide to make turkey bacon for the baked potatoes and get everything out for the burgers.  Pickles, onions (damn, I forgot the onions!), tomatoes, raw cheddar cheese, ketchup, mustard, veganaise, sour cream, butter, green onions, brussle sprouts, kale, more green onions.  I'm chopping and chopping and chopping and washing things and wiping counter tops and getting everything ready to cook.  Beelzebub asks when he should start his brussle sprounts and I say how about 30 more mins.  He said are those potatoes done.  I say lemme check.  These potatoes are not done, and seem to not even be cooking.  I begin to have a mild panicking feeling inside because what will I do to replace these potatoes.  This man is the hungriest person I know.  He is also very fit and thin and burns so many calories.  He can't just eat a burger, he will die. You might be thinking, Donka, just put the potatoes in the microwave.  Well, my friend, it is a long story, but I don't use the microwave due to its creation of free radicals and killing of nutrients in the food it zaps.  We had burgers (YUM!) and brussle sprouts with kale and some mustard sauce (YUCK!).  We ate at 6:45 tonight and it is now 8:44 and those potatoes are just now done.  I told Beelzebub to have one as his bedtime snack and he said all the turkey bacon is gone.  This man walks around starving and thinking of food constantly.  He will probably not eat the potato and talk about how hungry he is when he gets in bed in 15 mins.
